Summer Heat & Drought: How We’re Keeping the Farm Growing

Hello from all of us at What The Flock Farms! πŸ‘‹

Summer is in full swing, and while we love the long days and growing season, this year’s heat and dry weather have certainly been keeping us busy. Farming is all about adapting to what Mother Nature gives us, and every day brings new challengesβ€”and new opportunities to learn.

🌱 Protecting Our Gardens

High temperatures and little rainfall can take a toll on vegetables and flowers. To help our gardens thrive, we’re:

βœ… Watering deeply during the cooler morning hours to encourage strong root growth.
βœ… Using mulch to help retain moisture and keep the soil cooler.
βœ… Harvesting vegetables as they ripen to encourage continued production.
βœ… Monitoring plants daily for signs of heat stress or pests.

These simple practices help our crops stay healthy even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

πŸ“ Caring for Our Animals

Hot weather affects our animals just as much as our gardens.

Every day we make sure they have:

  • πŸ’§ Plenty of fresh, clean water
  • 🌳 Access to shade throughout the day
  • ❀️ Daily health checks to ensure everyone stays happy and comfortable

Keeping our flock and livestock healthy is always our top priority.

🌾 Farming Is About Adapting

No two seasons are ever the same. Every year teaches us something new, and that’s one of the things we love most about farming.

Whether it’s adjusting watering schedules, caring for our animals during extreme temperatures, or finding better ways to grow healthy food, we’re always learning and improving.

We hope sharing our journey helps others appreciate the work that goes into every harvest.
